In consultation with state agencies, Florida Housing funded the development of three pilot sites to evaluate whether cost savings to public services were possible when persons experiencing chronic homelessness who were high utilizers of crisis services received permanent supportive housing. This report, which Florida Housing published in April 2021, summarizes the findings of the three pilot sites, and the three pilots’ reports are also available. In summary all three pilots showed savings to public service costs after formerly homeless people moved into supportive housing, along with better resident personal outcomes.

Of interest to multifamily affordable and permanent supportive housing stakeholders is Florida Housing’s Rental Market Study. This report is prepared every three years for Florida Housing by the Shimberg Center for Affordable Housing at the University of Florida. The Rental Market Study provides information about the characteristics of households in need of affordable rental housing, including the housing needs of farmworkers, commercial fishing workers, and homeless persons as well as the subsidized housing available in the state.
